Re: Cult: Borers

We have some here in southern Ontario (USDA 4), I assume because
occaisionally when digging up and dividing iris rhizomes from my tall
beardeds I find rhizomes with holes in in them, but it never seems to have
a signifigant effect on the plants. I have not noticed any reduction in
leaf growth, lack of flowering, or loss of plants. Maybe up here the
climate is a little too extreme for the borers to breed in large numbers.
This has been going on for the last four years, which is as long as I have
been gardening with irises, but the plants themselves have been here since
the mid-forties and are still reproducing well. I will continue to follow
this particular thread with interest.
