Vicki and Chris:

I agree.  I have snapped bloom stalks off for years now, and the trick is a sharp
snap with a flick of the wrist.  If you cut bloomstalks off, be sure not to leave
any, but cut them completely down to the rhizome, or there is a danger of rotting.
With the correct snap there is no damage to the rhizome at all, so if any "babies"
are coming they wouldn't be damaged.
