I'm glad to hear that you are still having fun playing in the mud. It is
a very healthy thing to do-especially since you are encouraging those iris to
be happy also. I like the action of removing the roots. After months of
neglect, they may have picked up a bad virus or an insect egg which I'm sure
you did not wish to propagate.
