CULT: Birdseed blues

From: Bill Shear <BILLS@hsc.edu>

If you feed sunflower seed, be aware that the hulls are allelopathic to
most other plants and also inhibit seed germination of other plants. The
buildup under a feeder can kill lawn grass and other plants in the
vicinity, or seriously weaken them.

Moles are carnivorous and do not eat iris rhizomes. That's the job of
voles, which often use mole tunnels to get around but can dig their own as
well.

Squirrels have no interest in iris rhizomes, though their digging to hide
seeds could possibly uproot a tiny DB rhizome.
