re: BULB: What are dutch iris?



Dutch irises are derivatives of I. xiphium, along with the English and 
Spanish Irises.

As far as I can work it out I. xiphium is actually a group of species rather 
than a single species.  It includes I. bossieri, I. filifolia, I. 
fontanesii, I. juncea, I. latifolium and I. tingitana plus others.

I think the dutch iris comes from crosses as well as selections from these 
species.  Can be variable in size depending on the variety.  I know that 
something like "Apollo" is huge, while "Bronze Queen" is comparatively tiny.
