Probably along with Japanese beetles, too. The scent lures are a good control,
but should not be placed next to the plants they are eating. You want to draw
them away from these tender morsels, not bring other in to them.
If you have a mess of blackberry canes where they can chomp away and not hurt
your feelings, that would be a good location for the scent lures.
I used to raise ducks and had a bath tub set in the ground for them. Each evening
I would bring in about 5 lbs of those coppery beetles and Japanese beetles and
dump them in the water and the ducks would go berserk - imagine 40 ravenous ducks
in a bathtub and others walking over them, plucking the beetles from the feathers
- all gone in about 5 minutes. No other animal to my knowledge eats them.
So, if your bags have not been hanging out there over 24 hours, you might wish to
take them to the local duck pond - it's a much healthier treat for the ducks than
bread, which soon acquires toxic molds.
Milky spore is the only long term cure for Japanese beetles that I know. It's
expensive, and not easy to put down since they took Killer Kanes off the market -
1 tsp every four feet - a 4' bamboo square is a helpful template.
