Re: OT-BIO and Durable Iris Labels
I would add to Dallas' comments (deleted for brevity) that you could use
Excel (or some other database program) to manage your iris names and
whatever other information you want to put on the labels and then use
the Mail Merge function of Word to have it fill in the labels automatically.
I use a vinyl coated paper that I get from Horticultural printers. It
comes in 8 1/2 X 11 sheets and I format the information from my
database. That way I can make the labels as big as I want. I put name,
hybridizer, year, description, and location code number on my tags. That
enables me to verify the flower against the description conveniently
when it blooms.
I print on my laser printer and the toner get bonded to the paper. I
have had some labels in full sun for over 5 years and they are still
fine. I punch a hole in the end of the tag and hang them from a
curley-cue on the end of wire stakes I make by wrapping the wire
once-and-a-half around a piece of 1/2 inch pipe.
Just another idea.
