Sharon,
Average price for intros is between $40 and $50. Newer varieties
shouldn't cost you more than $3 to $10 bucks. Growers like Sutton's sell
a good variety of rhizomes at $1.50. I personally don't like to pay
more than $5.00 for an iris but I must admit breaking the bank this year
to buy good known parents for hybridizing.
I can't imagine forking out $50 for an intro only to find it a mass of
rot the following spring. Too risky for this climate , Blainville ,
Quebec Canada.
