Does anyone know? I am looking for a SOLID hedge plant, minimum 8-10 ft.
tall, maximum 6-8 ft. wide. I need a LOT. I may have to settle for
waxleaf privet, although I don't particularly like it (I HATE Italian
cypress). Grewia caffra looks nice at the nursery, but I got to thinking
that the leaves look a lot like hibiscus. I have had to dig up and throw
away 3 mature hibiscus because the whiteflies are so terrible, and NOTHING
seems to control them. Even if it did, I wouldn't want to be spraying a
few hundred feet of hedge on a regular basis. Does anyone know if
whiteflies like grewia caffra??????
I live in southern California, in San Juan Capistrano where some years we
don't even get a freeze. The whiteflies destroy hibiscus, ruin my fuschia,
make ash trees a mess, and will even settle (at a much less annoying level
on iris and giant bird-of-paradise.
Side note: 4 rebloom stalks so far on the lovely CLOUD BALLET!
