Oh my, Jan, Do you think you opened a can of worms here? LOL.
I will ask my silly questions. Usually in asking I come across the answer my self so why post the question? Really , this happens to me a lot.
I have hauled in and made from sctatch four of my many beds. The one bed that was started by simply plopping in some iris is the one that concerns me. I was given some TBs and just went out and stuck them in the rocky ground. They grew and bloomed and stayed healthy.I thought this meant the spot was right for them and added more as years went by. This bed is new moon shaped and 44'x30' and is on a slope. The bed is lengthwise on the slope and gets full sun. The ground is rocky there and it is very hard to find enough dirt to cover the roots let alone the rizhomes! I go rob dirt from the veggie garden just to anchor the roots sometimes! They all do great here except the few at the lower end of the new moon where it tapers off to the point. These grow and show no signs of bugs, boreres, rot, or anything , they just dont bloom??? This area is the reds (so called) and some of the pinks. My blues next up do great, the yellows do great, the purples do great, even the whites do well . What is wrong with my reds and pinks? I ordered some new pinks this year and I moved Sultan and Cinamon Girl up higher in the bed and now they bloomed fine. What could the trouble be????? Question from a lurker.
