Re: RE:OT:Lurker Letters & Archives
Hello! I have been LOVING these letters from lurkers and send my thanks
to Jan
for stirring them up. Keep them coming! May I make two comments?
1) Yes, the archives are intimidating. I've never really delved into them,
so I'm looking forward to your "How to--" article, too, Anner.
(And--yes,
I, too, have felt "slapped down" by curt messages to refer to the archives.)
2)About asking "dumb" questions: After thirty-one years in the classroom,
trying always to get grade-conscious college-prep students to go ahead and
ask questions, my standard line went something like this: "If you're not
sure of something, rest assured that others are unsure, too, and they'll
love you for asking. It's OK not to know; but NOT not to know and not to
ask. The beginning of wisdom is to realize what we don't know. . .," yadda,
yadda, yadda. (Horrors! Eleven years later, and I still sound like a
teacher, don't I?)
