And perfect spheres sink in ponds more rapidly than barbs <g>?
Thank you all for the positive feedback! I know I feel more emboldened to
write back in the future - I hope that those others who like me felt we had
little to offer recognize that their local experience is truly worth
something -- as are their quips!
One excellent example is the wonderful discussion last summer of what
irises did best in our own gardens. All our opinions of a given plant
contributed to an unmatcheable view of what grows well where - that became
my reference list for this year's purchases. I also treasure one subsequent
phone conversation with George Sutton because he complained that a mutual
favorite QUEEN IN CALICO was hard to grow; I thought that it was my own
ineptitude that kept it from flourishing. A later talk with Ginny Spoon
gave one possible answer: it grows well in her alkaline soil, but both
George and I have acid loam -- which also explains the difference in color
shown by RONEY'S ENCORE, which blooms schoolbus-yellow for her, but
peach-buff for George and me.
And I wouldn't have had an idea what questions to ask without the
background this list has given me. Thanks for the free education!
By the way, "quirky" means 'delightfully eccentric' <g>.
