Hi, Mickey,

Not to sound like a [....here the reader will please insert a word that
conveys the same meaning as 'smartass' but without the potentially
objectionable language....] but why not go to a Thread page and take a look?

We as posters have Threads of conversation, often several running at once.
The Archives also strings things along according to some mechanical rules of
its own and I have not analyzed them completely.

In reading things in the Archives by Thread it is important to note that not
everyone handles the subject line the same way, or just hits 'reply'. So our
Threads of conversation may differ a bit from the Archives Threads. One
reason it is important for folks to watch the subject line and change it as
necessary is so that our Threads don't get lost in the shuffle.

The main things to remember are:

(1) write a good subject line when you introduce a new subject for
conversation

(2) leave the subject line alone when you reply if the person you are
replying to got a good subject line on their post in the first place

(3) change the subject line if the one on the post you are replying to is not
so great, or if you change the course of the continuing conversation so that
there really is a new focus, or if you want to make sure something is in the
subject line to catch folks eye or help the search engine find things.
