"Everblooming' was once a goal in my hybridizing plans,
but after experiencing failure after failure I don't think everbloomers
are practical in the hottest areas of Zones 7/8. I would not
recommend them.
The 'everbloomers' I've grown and bloomed in the heat of July
and August were on runted stalks with gladioli branching and
lasted half a day in 100o degree heat. Usually, those that managed
to hang around until fall and rebloom were so stressed, puny, and
covered with cucumber beetles, they finally gave up the ghost over
winter. IMMORTALITY was one of these casualties.
I am not saying everbloomers are totally impractical. Where
they exhibit spring type stalks season-round, they may be the
thing! Not where I have gardened.
I hope Linda gets one that will perform everywhere.
