OT: Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens

I was just reading in the paper (Washington Post, 21 July, Weekend section)
about the Waterlily Festival occurring today.  ("What the heck does this
have to do with iris?", they day.)  Among other things covered in the
article, they mention there is a need for volunteers to remove iris (and
other non-native plants) from the preserved wild marsh area where it is has
invaded, disturbing the native plants.  No real information is given in the
article beyond that.  If you happen to live in the Washington, DC area, and
wish to inquire, a number is given for the park, 202 426 6905.

There is also a site on the web, http://www.nps.gov/nace/keaq/ if you want
to check them out.  The NPS also has a page listing volunteer opportunities
within the NPS across the country, in which no mention is made of this
particular one.  This page can be found at

you planning a vacation to the Washington, DC area, there is a link to all
