CAT: What I couldn't live without!!!!

Many many moons ago Kathy Guest asked what everyone had
on their "to die for" list this year. Didn't have time to
answer then, but better late than never. Here is a list of
what I ordered this year:

SDB:
FOREVER BLUE, because I heard so much on the list about it
reblooming, and want to see if it will do it here.

MAKING EYES, cream S and dark plum F. My sister used to
grow this, and it was her favorite and best growing SDB.

IB:
BLACK CURRANT, dark luminata. I was very impressed by this
in Dallas. Pictures in Aitken's catalog don't do it
justice.

TB: This is a big category. I will admit to being
TB-centric.
ANGELS IN FLIGHT, near white flushed blue. Beautiful form.

ANXIOUSLY AHEAD, pink S, lavender F. Innerst '00. I haven't
seen this in person, but always like this color combo.

AVALON SUNSET, bright orange. I am always trying to get
oranges that are good performers.

BITTERSWEET JOY, another bright orange. Saw a vigorous
clump this year in PA.

BLUSHING PINK, pink with a lavender belly stripe.
Definitely different!

COLOR ME BLUE, nice light blue

DELORIS CLARK, white, bright yellow hafts. I am looking for
a replacement for SUNNY SHOULDERS, which has been sitting
and sulking.

DESERT TRIUMPH, tan with maroon F spot. I fell in love with
a clump of this in MD 2 years ago, but couldn't find it
listed until now. To give you some idea how much I liked
this, I ordered 4 rhizomes.

DIFFERENT DESIGN, yellow S, sanded red F. Saw this at a
show last year and loved it. This is one of George
Sutton's.

DORTHEA MARQUART, bright yellow.

EVER ANEW, mulberry, orange B. My favorite iris from the
Oklahoma convention, but it was overlooked because it was
in only one garden.

FIERY FIGURE, orange Innerst '00. Figure I stand a better
chance with a local orange.

GIDEON VICTORIOUS, maroon rebloomer. This has been a
consistent rebloomer for someone local, and has great color
and form.

GOLDEN VELVET, yellow bitone. Great clump effect.

HARVEST KING, yellow-tan. I like brown shades and saw a
show quality stalk of this in a garden last year.

INFERNAL FIRE, yellow, red streaks. Unusual colorbreaker. I
have seen this in several gardens, and have loved the
colors, but the bud count seems to be low.

INTENSE EMOTIONS, golden yellow with red F centers. Innerst
'00. I saw this as a seedling and loved it, and am looking
for a better grower than FANFARON, which has a similar
pattern.

LADY BE GOOD, peach self, which seems to be a hard color to
come by.

MARMALADE, orange. Saw this at a show, where it had large
flowers and a lot of buds. Older Keppel intro.

ZANDRIA, another pink S, purple F, red B. I loved this in
Oklahoma, where I counted 10 buds. Thanks Dell!!!

JIs:
GEISHA MISCHIEF, KALAMAZOO, SARU ODORI - I seem to go for
the 3 fall JIs, and liked this when I saw them in a garden
this year.

SIBs:
GREEN EYED QUEEN, wine/lavender blend. Hard to describe,
but striking and different.

JEWELLED CROWN, wine with pronounced white spot.

LIGHTS OF PARIS, white with bright yellow hafts. Narrow F,
which gives it more of a species look. Striking from a
distance or close up.

SPEC:
I. graminea, small delicate flower that likes shade, which
I have plenty of.

I. tectorum alba - I like the blue better, but already have
it, and wanted another shade iris.

I notice that this year most of what I bought were ones
I have actually seen in a garden, rather than going from a
description or photo. I'm hoping this means they will have
the same good garden qualities here, and not just be a
pretty flower on a weak stalk with two buds...
