Lo Talkers,
I read about your problems with too much rain and weeds. Boy am I envious.
We got about an inch and a half over the past two days. Haven't mowed for
weeks. I quit keeping up with the deficit about two or three weeks ago. We
were down by over 8 inches at that time. And this is the second year in a
row. I've enjoyed the cooler weather we've been having over the last couple
of weeks.
Planted most of my new irises, and hope to have the rest in by the weekend.
Between the hoses and inverted flower pots they should get off to a good
start. The potting method worked last year when I didn't have a bed ready.
Right now, I'm quite pleased with my landscape fabric and soaker hoses. Rain
is better, but I'm glad I have the hoses. My main problem is keeping the
landscape fabric clipped so my rapidly growing rhizomes can expand. I should
start seeing rebloom stalks in the seedling bed any day. Everything is
healthy. I have some goorgeeeeous cactus dahlias--pink and yellow blends and
others.
I can't thank Maryotts and Suttons enough for the terrific iris and great
bonuses. You too, Vince. Oh, yes. I got a great bargain with the Sparling
irises. Ginny Spoon did a great job. I got 55 to 60 pastel sdbs, 13
different varieties with 3 to 6 per variety. Planted in clumps on the outer
edge of the back bed. It faces the street. Can't wait till spring!
