>>No really suitable subject tag for this. I remembered seeing an iris-talk etter mentioning an Australian regional iris convention or something. I don't know if I would actually go for it, but I'd at least be very interested if there is sort of Australian (national) iris society ...<<

The IRIS SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA (ISA) holds a national convention every two years or so. The next one is to be held in Yarrawonga, Victoria in October, 2001.

Following that, the next one will be in Perth, Western Australia in October, 2003 and then following that, the next one will be in Adelaide, South Australia (as Diane Mitterer has said) in October, 2005.

(snip)

>> Any ideas? Anything like that out there? Being a US citizen, I already know about AIS conventions. Any foreign ones I would love to know about. The bigger the better; we have some regional
conventions here that really wouldn't be worth a plane trip, but a national is generally nice. <<

If you are interested in the Yarrawonga Convention, I do have all of the information here with me if you would like to learn more. Remember though, that Australia is roughly the same size as continental USA. It's a big country.

>>For the US, pick Oregon, Washington, or somewhere in the
Northeast for the most beautiful visits.<<

Been there, done that! I agree with you that these areas are indeed lovely (but I found that meeting with the people was the nicest part of the trip!) but for good Louisiana iris I would recommend Dallas, Lafayette, Little Rock and anywhere inbetween. So, your recommendation for "the best" depends upon which types of iris you like the most!

Cheers for now,
