Fwd: RE: question..

Hello everyone,
I groom the irises continually, removing any / all decaying leaves from spring to fall. Some say to keep the leave on the fan until its almost completely decayed because the plant needs all the sun it can get for the next year's bloom. I remove the leave as soon as any browning/yellowing of the leaves occur. The only time I trim the fans is approximately Thanksgiving, give or take a week and, depending on the weather and temperature. Every effort is made to accomplish this before the first snow. The fans are trimmed in the shape of an upside down V ( / \ ), with the top of the point approximately 6 inches at an angling down at 45 degrees. This procedure prepares the fans for winter's 40" of snow, there is no decay on the fans at the onset of winter.
