CULT: bloom report (long)

Highlights of bloom in my garden -- it's been a great bloom season.

SDBs
Lots of wonderful bloom with a few varieties lasting almost a month despite
heat waves and a dry spring.
Widow's Veil -- nice ruffled dark one that lasted 27 days -- third year
clump
Wizard's Return -- nice purple lasted 26 days -- third year clump and hoping
to see rebloom
Blue Rill -- I love the bright blues. This one lasted 20 days -- second
year plant.
Outstanding first year plants:
Iced Wine -- luminata bloomed for 28 days (nicer colours than Iced Etching,
I think)
Photo Op -- nice no-nonsense medium purple bloomed for 19 days
Honourable mentions:
Chocolate Swirl -- wonderful rich chocolate colour, late bloomer to extend
the season
Radioactive -- really nice variegata with pencil thin edge -- striking
contrasts
Bordeaux Pearl -- love the form, colour and patterning of the plicata marks

IBs
Country Dance -- three year clump had so many bloom stalks that I didn't
want to count them. Bloomed for 28 days.
Glam -- striking plicata from down below that bloomed for 25 days
Masked Bandit -- I'm keeping an eye on this one. This first year clump had
three bloom stalks that lasted 25 days. Colouring is very vibrant.

Life got busy so my notes for the rest of the season are sparse.

MTBs
Apricot Drops -- was divided last year and still put out great bloom, is one
of the earliest MTBs to bloom. It's a nice clear peachy colour.
Siren -- love the colour (red-purple?), good sequencing of bloom
BenaFactor -- nice bicolor, good clear contrasts
Linda Lou -- nice understated pink plicata -- 10 buds!
Lasting Memories -- on the short side but a nice dark blue with 12 buds!
Bangles -- what can a say, distinctive and I counted 16 buds on one stalk
My Souvenir -- very nice pink amoena

BBs
Spring Pastel -- didn't like the first bloom but it grew on me over the
season -- two show stalks on a first year plant
Very Varied -- consistent good performer, unusual for broken colours
Honey Cub -- really nice broken colour and good form, this one surprised me

TBs
Baltic Star -- wonderful dark self with white ray pattern on falls, not many
buds but each bloom lasted a long time
September Frost -- nice show stalk, I hope to see rebloom this year
Splashacata -- love the dotted pattern -- 9 buds
Sudden Impact -- nice medium bloom that bloomed and bloomed and bloomed
Violet Shimmer -- distinctive wide banded plicata, first year planting had a
short bloom stalk but 8 buds!
Prosperous Voyage -- love that bright gold
Puccini -- very distinctive purple marks on falls but only 4 buds -- going
to keep an eye on this one
Dream Express -- very nice very ruffled velvety purple
Sea Power -- you want ruffles? you can't imagine how ruffled a flower can
be!
Debrenee -- nice pink bitone, long-blooming

Siberians
Double Standards -- long bloom period but doubling of standards not
consistent
Lemon Veil -- very nice lavendar on yellow
Banish Misfortune -- great grower and bloomer, season extender with early
bloom
Coronation Anthem -- I'm finally seeing repeat bloom!
Seneca White Cloud -- nice round white
Off She Goes -- very vigorous lavendar
Trim the Velvet -- nice dark blue with pencil edge, stands very tall and
elegant

Japanese
Rafferty -- begins bright pink and fades to pastel pink, not sure I like the
extra petaloids though
Crested Surf -- nicely veined and great substance

Our first order has arrived and it's time to decide what gets dug to make
room for the new. The ones listed here will survive the hatchett for a
couple of years.
