While I am a great fan, and regular viewer of 'Gardening Australia' I don't 
hang off every word of advice they utter.
Telling the average gardener that Intermediate irises can be obtained from 
crossing dwarf bearded with tall bearded, is somewhat misleading in that it 
neglects the fact that they can be obtained by mail order, and you get a 
registered variety that way.

They go on to advise that the cross will have the form of the pod parent and 
the colour of the pollen parent.  Oops!

They also make the common mistake of lumping PCI's in with beardeds, with no 
mention of their cultural requirements. This is the main reason PCI's are 
not popular here. People are told to grow them as for bearded irises, and, 
of course, they die.
