Re: AIS: Electronic Check List CD Of Iris Registrations

Hi Bobby (or Gretchen),

There are currently no plans to publish the Electronic Checklists on CD.
The limitations on the search capability of the current engine are more
of a problem of the way the data is formatted (or rather not formatted)
than the engine itself. I doubt that a PC resident search program could
do better with the data as it exists today. Yes, you could use a report
generator, but I don't think the results of the search criteria would
give you a satisfactory report result.

We are working on getting the data broken down into more separate fields
which will facilitate better search capability.

Additionally, when we get to the '49 and '39 checklists, there is a
great deal of rationalization of the data that we will have to do to get
it into shape for the database.

I appreciate your thoughts and criticisms (as well as anyone else's) and
will forward them on to the AIS board for their consideration.
Publishing the database as it exists today on CD is a policy issue,
certainly not a technical one. (Although there are a few issues
regarding updates and corrections)
