I happily do not live in a land of burning sun _but_ there are
at least 22 varieties of hostas which grow and do well in sunny
condition. They were reprinted in 'The Siberian Iris' (Fall '97,
p. 6) from a thread on the Sibrob earlier that year re companion
plants. The Sibrob is the Siberian iris mailing list on
Yahoogroups.
Btw, I don't think this thread should have an off-topic heading
since clearly it is not - most of us consider it very much
on-topic by the 'perennial' thread and the many responses it
always draws.
I hesitate to type in the 22 hosta varieties since it is lengthy
and frankly a chore. :)
