I think this would be true of any fresh manure.  You need to have what is 
referred to as 'well rotten' manure, and don't put it right on the iris but 
make them reach for it.  I don't think it matters if it is steer manure, bull 
manure, cow manure, horse manure, pig manure, chicken manure or what kind 
(although pig is a little more odiferous).
