I received rhizomes from Riverview this week as well. Mine looked quite
good. My own experience is the size of a rhizome received in no way
indicates whether or not they will bloom the following spring. Here in our
hot, dry heat, about half will bloom the spring following acquisition, but
the size of rhizome does not appear to be an indication of those that will
bloom, or those that will not bloom. I really haven't been able to tell
that size is a factor on how well they survive or perform. I think other
factors must dictate how they act. The rhizomes from Riverview were neither
small nor 'yam size', but they arrived in good condition to all appearances.
I think now, it will be the future conditions they have to grow in that will
dictate performance, along with their inherited growth and bloom abilities.
