Sounds reasonable to me.

The guest chair could ask each contributing hybridizer if there were 
any objections to having iris grown in pots, explaining the situation. 
I bet that few would object. If any did, those iris would go elsewhere.

Like others, I would be very interested in seeing such a container-grown
garden.
