OT-BIO Janet

Hi all,

I've just recently joined Iris Talk and have been lurking, learning
the list ropes, and reading archived messages for the past couple of
weeks.

I've been growing iris for over 25 years in various states where my
husband and I have lived which include Illinois, Michigan, Texas,
Maryland and most recently our current home, Wisconsin. Each state
has presented its own set of problems but Wisconsin has been the best
so far with regard to growing iris, though not all varieties are
reliably hardy here in the northeast part of the state.

I have heavy red clay soil and spend a lot of my outdoor time
amending it with sand and compost to make it easier to work; the iris
seems to appreciate my efforts as I get abundant blooms every year.
My other outdoor gardening passion is daffodils and I currently grow
over 100 varieties. My indoor gardens are filled with close to 1000
African violets and 120 orchid plants so I have my hands in dirt most
of the time, which is where they are the happiest.

I'm looking forward to learning from all of you and appreciate the
opportunity to be part of Iris Talk's community.
