Usually the bearded fanciers call the second bloom season in TBs and
other bearded "rebloom" (if I understand the term correctly). Some say
that Siberians "rebloom" (I did have some that fit that semantic term
in the past - ILLINI ENCORE was one, etc.) but _most_ apogon or
beardless fanciers use the term "repeat bloom" if the second bloom
falls within 4 to 6 weeks. The aforementioned ILLINI ENCORE was a true
rebloomer altho' an inconsistent one. I kept ordering it from
different suppliers to test the rebloom - at one time I had five
different clumps from different nurseries. The consistency of the
'rebloom' varied but all had a tendency to 'repeat bloom' or at least
show 'continuous bloom' for more than 3 wks. These three terms are
used carefully in discussing Siberian bloom habits. :-)
As far as Japanese irises go re 'rebloom' or 'repeat bloom' or long
'continuous bloom' - I have had some that had long periods of bloom
but none that I would classify as 'rebloomers' or 'repeat bloomers'. I
am not a large grower of Japanese irises and never had more than 35 at
one time. There are folks on this list who grow lots more than I ever
did and certainly know much more on the subject
ROARING JELLY is a delightful Siberian and was the winner of the
Morgan-Wood Medal in '99. It is a diploid and was hybridized by
Schaefer/Sacks in MA. It also has a "re" in the checklist which is why
it is repeating here. From the checklist: S. lavender-grey with
diffused red-purple veins; stylearms same, flushed blue-aqua; F.
shaded and dappled throughout (overall effect is red-purple maroon),
white signal with dark veining and dark blue flush. The ancestry is
interesting with several prominent and well-known Siberians appearing.
