Iris-Talkers,
As the sun sank in the West on June 25 there were still a dozen TB irises
in bloom in my garden. FALL FIESTA, LEMON CHESS, MARY D, QUEEN OF ANGELS,
and RECHERCHE called it quits on June 26. COTE D'OR, THORNBIRD, and
WHISPERING folded their tents on June 27. OVERJOYED was overcome on June
28. SIXTINE C and SNOW SPOON tossed in the towel on June 29, leaving the
Last Man Standing, and still blooming in solitary glory - SIR MICHAEL
(Yeld, 1925). How did he do it? The noble knight's endurance may not be
unrelated to the fact that he was the very last TB in to come into bloom in
this garden. He may not be able to repeat his performance here in what has
been his first year in residence, as he is listed as a midseason bloomer in
the checklist.
