Laurie,

You are right not to believe that ole' tale. ;-) I prefer not to have
 I. versicolor or I. setosa in my garden. We do enjoy I. pseudacorus.
Of course, I am speaking from the eastern end of USDA Zone 3 where
TBs were the star of the gardens this year not the Siberians even
tho' we has some knock-outs among the Sibes. The historics did well,
as usual, but the 'modern' TBs did _outstanding_. We still have TBs
blooming (maybe only 9 left) as well as the Siberians which are
slightly past peak.

I used to order from New England nurseries since I thought that if I
did, the irises would fare better. That proved not to be the case.

I now order most of my bearded from CA and CO and those from MS have
done extraordinary well here. Hal Stahly's intros, both Sibe and
bearded from MI, also do well here and three of them are still
blooming on this 4th of July : 'Satin Song, 'Embraceable You' and
'Celtic Glory'.

But the star of this garden was one from North Carolina, 'Seeking'
(Powell '98). It is registered at 36", EML. It blooms early and keeps
on blooming and is still in bloom with more buds to open.

Laurie and others in Zones 3 and 4 - I am compiling a list of
stand-outs in my garden in the bearded classes and some Sibes. Will
share that with anyone who writes by private mail.

Ellen (in the 90s F here in the mountains & soaking my head in ice
cubes while pouring on bug spray & after hearing that Sue F. has a/c
units - wish I had them ;-)
