  Hi, Linda,
My methods are mostly the same as yours. I potted my seeds in late Feburary this year. About three weeks later than I wanted to and should have. Germination was only about 50%. By April 1, they were two inches high and I started trasplanting them into their garden bed. In the first row I planted, they are now six to ten inches high, and some of them are rotting. Later plantings are much smaller, some scarcely growing at all, some dwindling, but I don't see any rot. They've never known any daytime temperature less that 100 degrees. If I can just get them through this summer, the strong ones will do fine. I don't know how or why you grow yours in pots so long. After a month in pots, mine quit growing and start looking unhappy.

I am considering chilling my seeds over next summer, potting them in mid September and transplanting them in late October. Frost is apt to occur in late November; December and January may have freezes down to 28 degrees, but I think with a good row cover, I can get them thriough the winter better than I can through these wonderfully hot summers. I hope so anyway. I don't have any place to put anything next spring.

Seedlings are still not big enough (early July) to safely rough it out
in the garden. In a few more weeks, a few will probably be big enough
with some protection by teepees of leafy tree twigs and with extra
  water.
