John Jones in CA asked:
<My question is this, why let them dry out at all? Take them from a
mature, but not dry, pod and plant them directly into a seed bed (garden
or indoors). The issue is that if you let them dry out, then you have
togo throught the soaking process to leach out the substances that slow
pr prevent germination.>
John, or others, could you give more details on how to get this to
work? I have tried this a couple of times with dismal results - only
one seedling, which appeared this year after a 3 yr delay. Walter
Moores has also tried with no success. I don't know how to adapt these
directions to my climate? Or else I'm not understanding something about
the process.
Pods don't split here until the pod has turned brown, by which time
seeds are plump but may still be whitish or may be tan. Do you shell
them from the pod and put them directly in damp soil? How deep do you
plant them? What temperature is the soil? Do you use sterile medium?
How long till seeds start to sprout?
