CULT: Irises vs. Daylilies

I'm a fan of iris, and haven't become too interested in daylilies. In
my humble opinion, I haven't found what excites those who love daylilies,
but know everyone has their own preferences. But this year my husband
taught me one good lesson about daylilies.
Just this last year I planted one large daylily clump (given to me) next
to my iris beds. I didn't know the color, so I was anxiously waiting for it
to bloom this spring. One evening just days before my peak iris bloom, I
came home one evening to hear my husband say, "Honey, I did you a favor, I
mowed next to your iris beds!". Yes, he mowed right over the top of that
daylily, 'cause he didn't know what a daylily was, didn't notice the daylily
bloom stalks growing, and it was shaved off down to one inch. I thought,
"there goes the bloom this year... ! @ ! @ ! @ ."
Assuming it was dead, I didn't even bother to continue to water it. If
the wind blowed, it might get a drift of moisture from the iris bed.
Those of you who know about daylilies know what I'm going to say next.
The darn thing kept growing, has put forth new foliage, and is NOW blooming.
Perhaps not as well as it would have if it hadn't been mowed, but it is
blooming.
Show me an iris that can do that at peak bloom season!

... ( and please, don't go mowing your flowers to see if they'll grow
back...)
