Doreen,

When I first read this, I thought there was a new iris mag. on the
market. Sadly, membership in AIS is often thought to be a
subscription to the Bulletin. (the same with most plant societies or
just orgs. in general)

I am sensitive to that point since I am the Editor of a section
publication of AIS, 'The Siberian Iris'. I am working on my fourth
issue since taking on this volunteer position and every time I plan
an issue, the overriding thought is how to make this issue: 1)
readable 2) useful 3) fun to read 4) attractive 5) also have
something for everyone (!) 6) have all this fit into the budget (my
big worry these days since colored pics = $$$)

AIS has a fine bulletin editor in Bruce Filardi (and a terrific
person to boot).I know he is committed to serving the AIS membership
and he makes each issue unique and every issue is better than the
last. I think the balance between 'technical' and non-technical (pics
+ human interest) is just about right, IMO.

Try AIS membership again....I think it is a bargain plus iris people
are great. :-)

Cheers,

Ellen

p.s. The 'something for everyone' is the biggest hurdle for editors.
Ask my friend Rita Gormley who edits TWO iris publications. :-)
