There are several different angles and questions re the Tall Bearded
Symposium.
1. What is the purpose? {Popularity poll = best performers in one's
garden (?) or gorgeous ones that you lust for (?) OR (?)...)
2. Why do so few AIS members vote? (purpose not understood/who
cares?)
It is akin to voting? Doesn't matter who wins except the top winner
in the Symposium doesn't get to pick Judges. ;-)
3. Does AIS pay for the printing of the ballot and the subsequent
mailing? (clarification needed on this.....)
4. Does 'anyone' put the high-scoring "winners" on their gotta have
list? Duh.
5. Does AIS think that the members will stop buying/growing TBs
unless we are reminded through the Symposium that this class of iris
exists?
6. Should the retailers of TBs underwrite the cost? Hey, it's just a
thought...
*7. Should we have only a write-in 'blank' ballot of less than 25-50
like we do in my region? Harder to count but the Siberian Society
always does it this way and includes only a total of 15 blanks..much
smaller than the TB Symposium, of course but maybe AIS would like to
pay for this one, too, and send it out with the Bulletin for us? We
would appreciate it...me, especially. Save me some work :-)
9. Should the Symposium rightfully be the province of the Tall
Bearded Society? Let them take care of it or at least pay for it - if
they don't already. (see, some of us don't know that iffy detail)
10. Why was the "Hall of Fame" done away with? (mentioned in the July
'02 bulletin) It was briefly discussed on this forum by Walter.
11. What does Gerry think? (since he is in charge of the Symposium).
12. Where is Gerry? :-)
13. My idea of deleting the Dykes winners wouldn't do much to winnow
the ballot down...since Walter said there are only a total of 24.
Hall of Fame is better idea but how much would that leave to 'vote'
on? Would it still be too large for the average AIS member to wallow
through?
And yes, I sent my ballot/poll in the day I received it. Voted for 24
not the allowable 25 and voted for only the ones I grow or have
grown.
Interested and surprised in the iris-talkers who told us they don't
vote the Symposium - one mentioned second/third rate irises.Wish I
still had my ballot - isn't there a section for write-ins or am I
wishing/dreamimg?
