Hello, all!

I have been very busy, and was not aware of these threads until late
last night.

I will be making more replies soon.

But for now, I will limit myself to stating that in a very real sense I
agree. There are many great iris in categories other than TB. No
question. The AIS board is well aware of that.

Among the problems with making a change in which non-TB's have a real
chance of competing is that, except for in the "polar" and "tropical"
parts of the country, TB's are the most commonly grown iris. Arils don't
do well where summers are humid, Siberians don't do well where it's hot,
... Louisianas must have some limitations ;-)

I feel that there should be a TB symposium. A TB section of AIS would be
a reasonable organization to oversee it. I hope to see that come to
pass.

But we have real problems. Our country is too diverse in climate.
Irisarians in Maine care as little about arils as those in Arizona do
about Siberians (from a practical sense, at least).

What I would like to see, and not just because I am stepping down as
RVP, is class-wide regional symposia, perhaps with write-ins the zero-th
year to set up the ballot, and then adding in award winners.

The result would be more useful than the current Symposium. But the
RVP's would have a _lot_ more work.
