Bill,
I think you may be confused. Voting the Symposium is open to EVERY member
of AIS. It was just mailed out with the July Bulletin. There is also a
Judge's Ballot. That is how the medals and awards are determined and that
is voted on by Judges.
As far as becoming a judge...just out of curiousity, how many judges are
there withing 100 miles of you? Here in Lubbock we are blessed with about
11 within that area. Making it extremely easy for someone to get the judges
training they need. Even though Region 17 has some of the toughest
requirements in the US we have had several dedicated candidates finish their
training in 2 - 3 years. Not an unrealistic investment for the
pleasure/priviledge of being a judge.

Yes, she doth inevitably sing. Albeit a shrill and hollow voice doin' a
chorus of "Don't rock the boat". Yes we vote. Some believe the privilege
sacrosanct and a privilege extended to all. Others the results of voting
irrefutable. In this case WE THE PEOPLE is limited to those with judge's
credentials. Course they are kind enough to allow us to rank THEIR choices.
More power than I willingly afford Democrats or Yankees yet sometimes
accept.
Thinkin' them credentials are kinda' an AIS poll tax to vote our choices,
unless of course they was to make them credentials readily obtainable with
some web courses. Some of us wouldn't be afeelin' like them freedom riders
of
a few years back either. Best I remember they got some upset about not
gettin' to vote.
