First off this band burner is all Betty's fault. Her name got published in
the Journal flight. I look for names I recognize first and then at the
pictures. When I see names of friends I get a "tingle" and sometimes when I
see a pretty iris picture. Both make my brain storm.
Since my favorite iris is a Dykes winner, it is patently clear from
Francelle's post she has several Dykes winners in her seedling patch.
Donna's perceptions are on target (bloomin, changin, week to week). But miss
the mark some. Where do you find iris when none are blooming? We all still
have the bloomin things in our head.
Mary Lou reads every post, probably has a cat and may be a little insecure.
Being curious but wonderin' if see was alone. I have a cat too but am in
denial about insecurity. Too, she is a little cost conscious and should avoid
daylilies.
Dr. Dave proved himself a gentleman lacking some ability to communicate with
poorly educated Southerners. Sheez being properly spelled sheeeit in Southern
and all.
Dana's one of them real irisarians. If it's about an iris she wants to know
it. TB's anyway.
Jan is about to succumb to cabin fever sittin' down there in Australia.
Wantin' to add Japanese anemonies to the mix that I'm not familiar with. Me
wonderin' if they be similar to Grecian wild flowers and too I'm wonderin' if
I could get her to send me some seed from Kangaroo Paw flowers.
And that Connie yawl? She already bein' special livin' in Robert E. Lee
country (he never said but one thing I didn't like even though he was wrong
morein' once) aughta be a good candidate for a position in AIS. She's smart
and remembers stuff real good and done made a lier out of me rememerin
something I said a while back.
Favorite? In defense of its previous character assasination by me, it does
always produce candelabra branchin' properly spaced and it more often than
not opens three blooms at a time. Too, it opens those blooms large and
consistent in size. This part of it is like an old friend. You can depend on
'em.
Since it's lazy, taller in stature than most, blooms bigger than most, not
real frilly, does what it wants when it wants, and ain't real bright, in my
mind it is of the male gender. While the others growin' here are females
holding their skirts up just enough to tease.
It became easier to finally have a favorite when all had quit bloomin'. I
just thought some about the ones I did truely cherish with my eyes open. Then
I closed my eyes and tried to see 'em. I could almost see Sea Power. But, my
mind could not bring up the beard color nor see the throat. Still, it did
almost obscure and topple my favorite and send it to the archives. Almost. I
thought right then, "Thank you Keith, a job well done". Then my mind wander
over to Blyth's Queen of Elegance. And I thought "Thank you too, Barry."
Then, my favorite appeared in the clearest of detail. An entire stalk. Old.
Timeless. (about 20 years). A lot like my friends. Classic in it's
handsomeness and presentation. A true monument to those Schreiner folk. Who,
had they done just this one, would have claim to fame. Started me to thinkin'
the company and the flower are a lot alike.
Smiles for the South where friends, irises, and great hybridizers cause
tingles for a long time,
