AIS:Symposium #!!!!

Well after reading all the posts on the Symposium my Eyes are bleeding. I
think there are a lot of valid ideas BUT they are all missing the point from
what I can see.

The Symposium is a SYMPTOM not the DISEASE.

If you were to get other less well distributed/promoted/etc. IRIS onto the
ballot (or wrote them in) they wouldn't get enough votes to show over the
whole country anyhow for exactly the same reason - who votes for what they
haven't seen ? Perhaps in a local vote they might have a chance. I notice
the Hem folks have regional favorites lists - shorter lists but more
meaningful for your area.

A while back Clarence Mahon wrote a fine article for the AIS bulletin which
extolled the virtues of some overlooked or less well distributed IRIS which
he felt were noteworthy. This type of input (you 'all can write articles too
I suppose) will do more good than trying to change the symposium or railing
about the distributions system etc...... As for the non-AIS general public -
they buy by THE PICTURE not from the Symposium or Awards lists.
