Re: HYB Seeds

I harvested the last of this year's iris TB iris seeds in my garden this week. I am surprised at the difference in quality of the different crosses. Fortunately a few crosses that I really wanted produced healthy looking seeds. A few others that I really wanted produced tiny black seeds that look as though they dried in the pods before they matured. I am not really surprised as we suffered through the second hottest June ever with temperatures consistently around 110 and humidity for several days below 5%. One day the humidity was down to 3%, the lowest I have ever seen. The pods looked normal, but I believe that in some cases the seeds within them dried. Anyway, I will plant them and see what happens.
Low humidity is not our problem the past two weeks. We have had two rains which haven't brought the temperature down much, and I am having to treat all my flourishing guest iris clumps for rot. If I can just get through this summer, I'll be happy.
