Pat: I just have black (argentine?) ants, but when they start crawling on
my iris leaves it invariably means they are farming aphids inside the hollow
at the base of the outer leaves, and it is time to use that Bayer rose
fertilizer with systemic insecticide. If it's real bad, a few squirts of
some insecticidal soap might help speed up the eradication process. Take a
peek and see. Maybe red ants have different habits.
