Not all of us do this, soaking, nor do we need to. It depends on your
climate. I probably wouldn't have bothered had I found it so difficult. (I
had 3 children to raise at the time.) For my area, it's only necessary to
fill some pots with potting soil and plant some seed. Usually plant between
Nov. 1 and Jan 1. Most winters will chill the seed enough. I water well
just after planting and I try to make sure the pots are kept damp in the
spring. It's still soaking, but different! ;-)
