HYB: HIST: Shannopin

A few years ago, I got starts of several of the most common older TBs
that are grown by nearly everyone that grows irises in this area. Four
were easy to ID - HELEN COLLINGWOOD, WABASH, INDIAN CHIEF, and
SHANNOPIN, verified with purchases from reliable dealers. Super
reliable & good growers here.

SHANNOPIN has produced a healthy bee pod with lots of good looking seeds
this year. Having been inspired by the kid that bloomed this year from
last year's bee pod on HELEN COLLINGWOOD, I'm looking forward to seeing
what this showy bicolor produces. Depending on what they look like, I
may do some intentional crosses with it. It's pretty hafty, but has
nice height and branching, & the colors are nice. I'll post a stalk
photo.

I looked it up in The World of Iris and found that it was used quite a
bit in early attempts at pink amoenas.

Sure would appreciate it if anyone out there has knowledge and time to
share names of descendants from SHANNOPIN. It was introduced in the
40s, so is in the part of the checklist that probably wont' be online
until long after I'm gone.

Much thanks in advance.
