Re: Deer Deterrent....

I've found that deer think fresh garlic is quite tasty, at least the
leaves! They haven't bothered some of the other types of Onions yet though
(but the Gophers like most of those). I haven't found any smell that keeps
deer away. The garlic/ chives/ onions sure don't do anything to keep them
away. They even ate Plum foliage that had Cygon freshly sprayed on it (I
think they were really hungry). Didn't notice any missing deer, so I hope
the Cygon didn't hurt any of them (that was two years ago). I can dump the
cat box all around the fence line, and they pay no attention to that at all
either. The rabbits ignore it too. The coyotes think it smells great (but
the coyotes don't seem to be getting rid of the rabbits either).

Well, back to deer.

I've taken to tying white strips of cloth on the fence. They flop around
in the wind (the wind is always blowing some here, especially in the
evening when the deer tend to come around), and the deer won't go near
them. So far, 6 months of working good. However, it's ugly, at least I
think so; so, if you have close neighbors they might complain. Makes a lot
of noise when the wind is really kicking up. I live 20 miles from town,
the nearest neighbor is nearly a mile away, and the fence is around 50
yards or more from the house (so it's tolerable).
