Hello,
I am the rose curator of a botanical garden in Gwinnett County, GA and I am having a great deal of trouble locating a current Iris club here, though I am certain there must be one.
I have tried reaching a Mr. McRae with no success. Our garden would like to have a presentation of the following in our iris collection.
1) species or native
2) pre 1850 or very early
3) historic that lead to development of iris
4) representatives of accomplishments of particular important breeder
5) representatives of type
6)modern cultivars which demonstrate newest advances
However, we need an iris enthusiast to assist with all of this. I know a little about irises, and I better as my mom whose name is Iris is a big enthusiast. However as she lives very far away, I was hoping to find someone like her, who lives near or in Gwinnett county. Or perhaps someone who lives a little farther but can assist sometime. If you have any contacts in GA, who could assist me to find an enthusiast, it would be appreciated. The garden must decide which of the AIS groups to join, I believe we will be joining the historic iris society, but any information on other groups is welcome. The garden would be willing to host iris shows, or allow an iris group to meet at the garden if you all need help with this. Our hope is that we can teach the public about lots of plants, iris being one of them. Thanks,
Tamala Iris Barbour
