I must have run everybody off with my post about German &
butterflies....
For those of you who live in climates where stalks sometimes rot off
before pods mature - have any of you kept track of germination success
and/or seedling success/rot resistance relative to whether or not the
stalk rotted?
Some stalks here rot thru at the base, some rot in the middle from
insect damage. I no longer attempt crosses on parents with stalks that
routinely rot, but still have quite a few that will sometimes rot,
sometimes not before pods are fully mature.
Most last at least a month, which seems to be enough to produce viable
seeds most of the time, if I just put the stalk and pods on a bright
window sill.
