I've always removed the blooms as quickly as possible so they don't induce  
rot or get hung on other material and pull the pod loose.  Could be the  reason 
I've had a relatively small incidence of larvae damage.  
 
Hope I can remember to do some test blooms next year on the second day  
theory.
