Hi! I just joined this list. I live in El Paso, TX since 1979. We are
orginally from Wis. 3 Children are grown and have moved away. We raise and
show Bichon Frise Dogs. Gardening here is quite different from what i was
used to. I was given some yellow iris plants (name?) many years ago and
they have mulitplied. We have a backyard planter along the stone wall. It
is 2ft high and about 2ft from front to back. I have iris growing in there.
Some years I get lots of flowers and some years little.
We just added another rock planter along the back wall with same dimensions.
I planted yellow iris in there also. We also have a courtyard with an 8 ft
wall surrounding it and it faces South. Again mainly the same iris planted
there plus assortment of annual flowers. A bout 6years ago while in Wi I
picked up some packaged iris bulbs. After about 3yrs, (I planted them in a
big pot) they finally bloomed. It was a bearded iris that was a blueish
lavender color. Last year was 3rd year of blooming but I noticed the color
had changed. I had planted some other iris in 2 big pots and they took a
couple of years to bloom also and they were gorgeous to me. I took lots of
pictures of them. They were bearded iris also. While on vacation in Wi in
June, I stopped at a garden center and I ended up buying 8 iris plants.
A standard dwarf White by Gardeners Choice a bearded dwarf called Cherry
Garden by Gardeners Choice, a reblooming bearded by Holland called
Immortality (White),
a reblooming by Holland called Breakers in med blue, a fragrant bearded by
Holland called Superstition (black) and 2 other bearded ones. I lost those
two to rot (I think) when I tried to divide them and give half to my
brother.
I may have grown plain iris here for 20years but I know very little about
them. It's been just plain luck. Wish we had an Iris society here. Hope I
can learn about the different iris I just bought.
