Linda,
You mentioned a bit back that she grooms her iris. What exactly does she
do?
Or what do you mean by grooming.?
The reason I ask, there seems to be 2 schools of thought in my region about
trimmings etc.
For me, since I can't stand brown tips I remove the offending leaves or trim
it. Others tell me I'm robbing the plant of it's process.
Also, I remove or trim some b/c I like to grow plants between my iris in
summer, I will sometimes cut back any leaf that is drooping and are crossing
As you know, I try to keep things in a diagonal instead of the circle iris
want to grow in. So I move and divide iris a lot. They seem to love the
attention. My objected is to have a few blooms of many various kinds, rather
than large clumps of same color. If I had the space I'd certainly let them
expand more, but I don't, so rather than just have a few varieties, this is
the only way I've figured out to have more types.
I have a very small yard so I can do this sort of thing now. I'm just
looking for that rainbow effect in the spring. Life long project. So keeps
me busy.
