Betty, this question may be mostly for you, but help from anybody with experience would be appreciated.
The question is - have you had any luck in 'cold climate'/acid soil/humid climate getting the rebloom traits of the "California/ alkaline soil rebloomers" combined with the health and vigor of "cold climate/acid soil rebloomers"?
I know you've been trying to do this Betty, and I've made a few crosses with that in mind, but am not really close to trying that yet (problems so far getting any pollen from the CA rebloomers that are reliable, heavy summer rebloomers in CA).
The Suttons (and probably others in California) get great summer rebloom in weather a lot hotter than we get on cultivars that never rebloom here - those "California rebloomers".
On the other hand, we get rebloom on some of the so called "cold climate rebloomers" (i.e., IMMORTALITY) that hardly, if ever, rebloom for Suttons.
My observation is that the 'cold climate rebloomers' only start to bloom after they've been exposed to cool night temperatures, usually Aug here & the Suttons see rebloom with their "CA rebloomers" when they have "a nuetral to slightly alkaline Ph, adequate amounts of calcium without too much nitrogen in well drained soil, two week watering intervals with time for the soil to dry in between and lots of sun".
Robin, Mary Lou, others, do you have any seedlings yet from these types of crosses that are summer rebloomers?
Mike, at one time, you or George were doing a few IMMORTALITY crosses - did you see any seedlings that were summer rebloomers?
When I say "summer", I just mean sometime after main spring bloom and early enough to always avoid fall frost.
